NO LECTURE ON FRIDAY MORNING
TOMORROW 19/03/2024: LAB 2
Topics:

  • Steady-State
  • "Transient Response"
Steady-State concerns what happens to a system long-term
Transient refers to what happens to a system in a certain period of time

We will then analyze prototype sytems in L7

BIBO Stability Recap

An LTI system is BIBO Stable if and only if all the poles of the transfer function have strictly negative real parts.

Steady-State

We consider asymptotically stable systems (BIBO Stable, SISO), with a minimal LTI SISO dynamical system described by

We have As the sytem is asymptotically stable, for ,

Recap

When we have a LTI system and we know the transfer function, and know that the input is a step, with the system being stable, the steady-state output response can immediately be computed:

For a sinusoidal input, we have:
where:

We use the matlab command bode to calculate the magnitude (bar) and phase() of a transfer function.
The magnitude value is expressed in linear, not dB
Phase value is expressed in degrees.
